Dr. Hisham Barakat, DDS
Dr. Hisham Barakat, DDS graduated from dental school in 1998. He then completed a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency (AEGD) at Louisiana State University. He also completed a two-year General Practice Residency (GPR) at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC). Following both of these, he joined a large group practice in Virginia Beach, where he served from 2003-2010. During this time, he was both a board member and a core doctor.
He is 1 of 7 Board Certified Implantologists in the state of Virginia and 1 of 4 Virginian dentists who specializes in The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST), a scalpel-free, suture-free procedure for correcting gum recession.
Dr. Barakat is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology (ABOI). Doctors with the ABOI/ID have to complete a rigorous exam to prove their high level of knowledge and proficiency in implant dentistry. Dr. Barakat is one of just 445 dentists certified by the ABOI in the United State and one of 10 practitioners in Virginia to hold this certification.
In addition to this, Dr. Barakat has been awarded Mastership status in the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD). To achieve this, he was required to attend over 1,100 hours of continuing education covering all phases of dentistry, 400 of which involved participation courses and case presentations.
Dr. Barakat is a credentialed member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) and has been awarded Fellow status. Dentists who receive this honor have been certified by their peers and have worked hard to meet national standards of education and practice in oral implantology.
He is also a Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantology (ICOI), which is the highest credential offered by this internationally recognized organization for dentists who have shown excellence in Dental Implantology.
Furthermore, Dr. Barakat also enjoys lecturing both nationally and internationally about implant dentistry to help increase the education of his fellow dentists.
Dr. Barakat currently serves as a part-time faculty member at the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. He also served as the Continuing Education Chair for the Academy of General Dentistry Virginia Chapter.
In 1998, Dr. Barakat completed the Medical College of Georgia/ AAID MAXI-COURSE in Implant Dentistry, the Maxi-Course is among the most respected and comprehensive training programs in implant dentistry. Offered in university settings throughout the U.S. and internationally, the course presenters include renowned university faculty, world-class clinicians and the country's top authorities in implant dentistry.

Dr. Mielad Abady, DDS
Dr. Mielad Abady, DDS is a general dentist that takes great pride in providing state-of-the-art comprehensive dental care to his patients. Dr. Abady is a Virginia native who graduated with honors from George Mason University with a bachelors in Biology. Soon after, he began his journey at Howard University College of Dentistry where he graduated in the top 3% of his graduating class. He was a recipient of multiple awards during his time in dental school which reflects his dedication to the dental field.
Upon graduation he completed a one-year general practice residency and oral surgery fellowship at Mount Sinai in James J. Peters VA Hospital Centers. He received extensive training in the areas of implant dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, endodontics, periodontal surgery, and full mouth rehabilitation.
Dr. Abady has also dedicated time in his professional career to the care for the less fortunate. In the summer of 2014 he went on a two week trip to Jamaica where he, along with a team, provided essential dental care and treated life threatening dental conditions for over 1,000 people. Dr. Abady enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and football.
Andrea, Office Manager
With nine years of experience in the dental field, Andrea is passionate about providing great service and care for all patients. She’s happy to be in an environment where she can help people achieve wonderful oral health while boosting their overall happiness, too. In her spare time, Andrea enjoys boxing, reading, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. And one thing you might not expect about Andrea? She’s also in the U.S. Army Reserves -- she’s been serving for about four years!
Crystal, Dental Assistant
Crystal has 21 years of experience in the dental industry and works as a Dental Assistant for The Plains Smiles. Her favorite aspect of the job is getting to know her patients and ensuring they feel 100% comfortable in their chairs. In her spare time, she likes riding her motorcycle, off-roading with her husband, and playing with her adorable dog Molly the Mastiff.
